My life and experiences as a vegetarian.

Hi,
I’d like to talk about the prejudice that surrounds vegetarians, pesco-vegetarians and vegans. I will start by saying a vegetarian is a person who does not eat any meat or fish, a pesco-vegetarian is a vegetarian who does not eat meat but eats fish and a vegan is someone who does not eat any animal products.

A vegetarian becomes so due to specific beliefs, preferences and influences. Some believe it is wrong to consume animals as they have as much right to live and develop as we do. Others do not like the taste of meats of animal bi-products so avoid them due to taste. Some are brought in homes of vegetarians and have never been cooked meat.

Does this entitle people to make prejudice decisions? No! I have had people say, “If your a vegetarian why do you wear leather?” or “Do you only eat vegetables?”. My answers are vegetarians are no different just what we consume is. Everyone eats different diets of meat, pasta, potatoes, vegetables and junk food. I am sick of going to a restaurant and not being able to find anything on the menu for vegetarians apart from vegetable lasagne. I mean what happened to stuffed peppers or mushrooms? Or Nut roast? If vegetarians can cater for meat eaters why can’t they cater for us?

Thank you,

That is all for now.
