Following on from my diasastrous week at work, my equally disastrous weekend continues …

Pessimist – Punch cartoon, 1920

It was with some reluctance that I got up when the alarm went off on Saturday morning but, once I’d got going with a nice cup of freshly ground coffee and a hot bread roll with jam, I felt a little more human.  Our friend Nick arrived at about 10.15 and, having made us all another cup of coffee and chatted to Nick for a quarter of an hour, both the “boys” (Adam’s 50 and Nick’s in his late 40s!) disappeared upstairs to play some sort of death and destruction, blow all to smithereens computer game and I finally got around to phoning my Mum about her fall the previous day (see http://socyberty.com/work/welcome-to-the-house-of-fun-part-one).  The plan was that I’d speak to Mum, get on with a bit of housework, join the boys for a quick sandwich lunch and then I’d get out in the garden during the afternoon.

Needless to say, Mum had a lot to tell me so I was on the phone until almost 12.00.  I had time to load the dishwasher from the previous night, put a load of washing into the washing machine and ran upstairs to clean round the bathroom; the bath was particularly grimy as the cat likes to drink the water from the bath tap when Adam or I are sitting on the loo, and as she’s long coated (hence she’s often sick due to her ingestion of long fur!) she has long hair on her feet too which manages to pick up all sorts of mud, soil, moss, etc which ultimately finds its way onto floors and, naturally, into the bath.

It was lunchtime and I’d achieved hardly anything but I was determined to get out in the garden.  However, by the time Adam, Nick and I had finished our sandwiches, followed up with a flapjack and a cup of tea, the sun had gone and it had started to rain.  Still, at least I’d be able to catch up with the housework and maybe get out in the garden the next day.

The rest of the day seemed to jog along reasonably well; after Nick left at around 5.00 Adam and I reheated the kebab meat left over from Thursday’s takeaway and had it with salad and a glass of wine, watched a bit of TV and I even had time to play a little bit of Dragon Fable before dropping into bed fairly late on Saturday night.
