I am starting a series of articles that will bid farewell to noted people. Feel free to add your own.

Solomon Burke was born in an upstairs room in a Philadelphia Church. When he was born, music was playing which is why some believe that was why he became one of the greatest jazz vocalists of the 1960s. Burke died October 10, 2010 of natural causes in Schipol Airport in Amsterdam.

With a local band of Amsterdam called Dijk, he was supposed to perform a show in a church converted into a fire hall, this concert was sold out.

Atlantic records producer Jerry Wexler, who is considered legendary, once called Burke “the best soul singer of all time”.

In Burke’s later years he performed on stage on a throne because he had health problems and he was thought of being royal like.

His two best known songs were written for movies. The movies were The Blues Brothers with John Belushi and Dan Ackyroid. The other movie was Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze.

Burke was born March 21, 1940. When he was born, horns and brass drums were playing at the church of his birth.
