Red – The Color of My Idiosyncrasy.

Elementary Red – My Dear
2nd or 3rd grade, that’s where I was when I heard the story “The Little Monkey” that wore a little red hat on his head.  One day the wind blew the little red hat from the little monkey’s head.  It was very difficult for the little monkey to get it back.  If I remember correctly he ran after his little red hat all the day long.

The Feeling of Dread
Dread that is what I feel approaching as I attempt to wear a red hat or scarf on my head. For some odd reason, every since I was little, I have the weirdest feeling whenever I attempt to wear something red on top of my head (scarf, etc.) but especially a red hat.   I just could not bear the sight of anything red on my head.

Valentine’s Day Red
Valentine’s Day Red has always played a big part in my life. When I became a teenager I learned more and more of Valentine’s Day and how red represented Love from the Heart.  That red always brought me feelings of much closeness and hopes of being loved and giving love!

Looking Good In Red
I was told during my younger adult days that I looked gorgeous in red.  I was told that red was my color.  I had always considered myself a lover of the color blue.  Any color blue was my favorite color.  Yet, I darned myself in red; blouse, jacket, shoes, skirt, dress, they were all so easy to wear.  Yet, I could never wear anything red on top of my head!

The Red Hat Society
Several years ago “The Red Hat Society” was born (let me say “I only hear good things about the Red Hat Society”). Loving hats the way I do I thought surely this would be the time that I could wear a red hat!  Without thinking about the “Little Monkey” I saw a beautiful red hat in a local department store.  When I got the red hat home I placed it on my closet shelf.  About once a month during the Fall and Winter months I take the red hat down and try it on.  Yet, the red hat has only been able to stay on top of my head for a few seconds. To this day I am unable to wear that red hat!

Seeing Into The Past
Recently I was able to see into my past and realized why I could never wear the color red on my head. My “red on head” Phobia was caused by the introduction of the Little Monkey’s struggles to get back his little red hat.

All of our idiosyncrasies stem from something. Some reach as far back as Elementary School.  Some may even reach as far back as our birthdate!  What is your idiosyncrasy?
