I’m so happy that you have found an outlet here at Triond. This is the first of your articles I have read and I look forward to more.The families I know are not as you describe yours but still we do tend to disagree about some things. And when you marry into a family you do have to compromise on some issues to keep the in-laws happy. The wife should always come first in my opinion but I understand in some cultures it is not the case. Take care, and good luck to you and yours.

I know I had not seen anything from you for a while, Norah. You are right, when you marry a guy, he really does come as a package deal; and it is really hard for anyone to throw off their childhood training. It sounds like a really tough time for you; I don’t know enough about your culture to advise you. I’ll just say, Keep writing. Writing helps clarify our own thinking, and in the end, you are the only one who can decide what you need to do.
