Sometimes vocalizing what we need to say is too hard and we need to sit down and get it all out without being interrupted. There is no way to interrupt a letter, after all.

Writing a letter is a great way to get in touch with someone, near or far, but it’s an even better way to apologize for something, tell someone something they need to know, or make up after a fight. And sometimes, delivering the letter is just another way to make your statement wordlessly. Here are a few ideas to get it from your hands to theirs.

Mail it.

Believe it or not, there’s this entire system that’s designated to do just that. Write a letter, put it in an envelope, write the adresses on, and mail it. Since you can just e-mail or hand deliver it if they live close enough, it definitely makes a statement.

Leave it for them to find.

Write the letter and leave it on their coffee table when you leave, or tuck it into their pocket when you give them a hug. Slide it into their bedsheets for them to find when they make their bed or climb into it that night. However you leave it, make sure it’s something they’re going to find and find quickly.

Borrow something of theirs and return it.

If you have a book, movie, video game, piece of clothing, ect. that belongs to them, tuck the letter safely inside before you return it to them. They may not even be expecting you to return whatever it is in the first place, but definitely not to get a letter with it.

Leave what you want to say in an open notebook in their room.

It will almost look like you accidentally left your journal in their room until they realize that what is being written is addressed to them. They’ll definitely read it and get your message; curiosity does the work for you.

There are plenty of ways to get your message across to the person who needs to hear it. You just need to have a little imagination, and the will to make yourself heard.

Letters are also a great way to break up with someone whom you shouldn’t have gone out with in the first place. But, if you’re going to mean, move very far away and change your number so they can’t contact you.
