Advice column. Unhappy and irritated with life.
Dear: Leanne
Lately I find myself to be irritated with life. I’m not happy, and I’m tired of people telling me to “buck up”. I hate myself for feeling like this. I don’t know what to do.
Sincerely,
Depressed in Cali
Dear: Depressed in Cali,
First, I want to send you a cyber hug, and tell you that everyone is entitled to a moment of weakness. Depression is not something that should be taken lightly, and so I would recommend that you do two things. First I want you to talk to your family physician and Second I want you to schedule a get-a-way.
Sometimes a step back from life is very important. Go away for the weekend, no friends, no family, no distractions. It’s time to recharge and take charge. Think about what it is in your life that is defining you, causing you pain. Write out your plan to take control of the situation and turn the tables. Don’t let life define you, it’s time for you to define life.
You deserve to be happy, focus on what would make you content and chase the dream. And remember that sometimes the journey to our goal will uncover true happiness in new and exciting forms.
My mom always said “Everything happens for a reason”, and I believe that. Life is full of surprises, but without all the “downs” we wouldn’t be able to appreciate all the “ups”.
You’re not alone,
Leanne
