A letter my 11-year-old nephew asked me to post for his mother’s birthday.

To the Best Mother in the Whole Wide World,

Tomorrow will be your birthday, and I still do not know what to give you. I have not made up my mind for there are a hundred things I want to give you but if I give you all of these, I am sure you will complain of how messy I made our house. Anyway, don’t worry. I check my wallet, and I don’t think I can afford any of the things I am thinking of giving you.

But you know, Mama, when I grow up and become one of the richest men here on earth, I will give you a grand birthday party. We will celebrate your birthday with a bang. You will wear a lovely gown fit for a queen. Papa will also wear a dress like a king. Of course, I will wear also a princely attire. We will celebrate your birthday in a 10-storey mansion with lots of delicious mouth watery foods for our family and friends. You will have the tallest and biggest cake ever to provide space for the many candles that we will have to put in it. Don’t worry for me and Papa will help you blow all your candles. We will all enjoy and have a grand time. I know what you are going to say, “such extravagance”. Don’t worry, Mama, remember I am so rich by that time, money will not be an issue. Oh, Mama, why do you have to spoil my dream. Let us just enjoy it. Okay, okay, so you will not feel guilty, since I am rich, I will also give food to the orphanage and the homeless elderly people so they will also celebrate while we are celebrating, that way, everybody is happy on your birthday. Now, I see that you are smiling. Are you now happy, Mama? I know how good and kind your heart is. I promise you that I will conquer poverty, if only I can, maybe at least lessen it so you will not be too sad for them.

Mama, I am now feeling sleepy. I think I just kiss and hug you for now that I am still a boy and still helpless. You know that I love you even if I make you angry sometimes. I am sorry. I do not mean to do it. It’s just that I cannot help to be naughty and so playful sometimes or is it always?

From the most loving son in the whole wide world.

thank you son, don’t worry I’ll help you pray to the Lord that your wish will come true, though seeing you grow as a very good and responsible kid is very rewarding enough to me and will make me already the happiest mom in the world. I love you son.. mwah.
