My personal guess reaction to people who work as a farmer that has to deal with free trade. Not really from North Dakota, just some paper my teacher wanted me to do about.

Dear Newspaper Editors,

My name is Karl and I live in North Dakota all my life, I do faming as my all-time job to keep food on the table and of course make a money so I can pay for the bills on food, the animals, the production, and most importantly the farm. I had the farm for quite some time and I just wanted to tell you what I think about this here free trade agreement thing.

Free trade personally had affected my badly, but no because the business but the fact that I work myself to death on my crops and them picture perfect and now it’s not getting the respect that it should be getting like it should. I work hard you know.

What I think about Free trade is that it is a threat to small business like farms. Now barely any of my customers come to pick up some of the food I grow on this earth. They now just go to the grocery store that is like a 10 minute drive from my farm.

How free trade affects my job is making my feel like a have no job. Like I’m not good enough for this community and that they don’t need us. It makes me feel like a worthless bum who lives in a farm with no money to pay for everything.

I am very surprised by this changes, not because that business has gone bad so quickly but people were most likely to go to some cheap place that probably grow in a greenhouse or something and not giving it the love and care like each plant should get. My crops are far better but now people are being told that what I sell is garbage and I don’t deserve for my hard work and dedication.

Why it happen in my industry is because I don’t have a huge verity of foods or anything like that when they come to me. They just go to the grocery store and think they are going to get a better choice on everything with more organic foods. It’s just I can’t put anything else, all my life I was using the same crops I do every season and I always get customers to buy them so I can prepare for the next season.

The only option I have now really is to sell off all my acres of land that I owned so other future farmers who want to have a swing at it and pretty much most of my employees because I know that they were good people and they don’t want to work a free labor on me because I cannot supply them with their monthly payments for their services.

Have us growing the crops for them, have them use our crops and sell them up in one of those fancy grocery store places and give us the profit for growing them and distributing them down there. It’s the least that they can do then have us wasting away your life’s just hoping that someone would come in and give us some profit on what we have to offer.

Sincerely yours,

Karl
