Dear parents, brothers, sisters and friends of the students deceased in Finland,

I know these words won’t soften the pain of your hearts, but I need to say them anyway. I and several millions of human received the news about what happened to your beloved ones through the news broadcastings and newspapers, the same that have hardened so much our hearts. Most of us received the information just as another report, another act of violence, just something more to talk about. But we’re so used be informed about this kind of things that many times we don’t think about you. Pleas, forgive us! In this moment I would like to represent those many that thought of you, that felt for you, that care for your pain. I would like these words to be some kind of an arm on your shoulder, a moment of good company, a warm presence to hold you. Words are not good enough.

It’s difficult to see how the murderer seems to be almost the hero of the story on the news. As the lions at the Roman Circus, ferocious and hungry, like the drunk driver in an accident, just like the conceiver of a holocaust. But you, who are suddenly involved in this horrible situation, remain anonymous, unknown, quiet, ignored. From here, so far away from you, I reach for you with the invisible hand of my heart to be with yours, to cry the tears of your pain.

Forgive us, we were the ones that taught that young man how to kill, we put weapons at the reach of his hands, we gave the money that allowed the movies he saw to be done, those who didn’t know what to do with his twisted mind. The least we should do is to show you our sympathy, add our own tears to yours and pray to God to comfort you in some way.

Sitting here with you in midst of this tragedy, we do silence before your sadness.
