An open minded view of the times.
I was able to organize a meeting with the Mayor through her Personal Assistant. There was a little shuffling for position but that was expected with a person in that position with people vying for your presence. My partner thought it best to alert our leader to see if she wanted to attend as well. I agreed and thought it was a good idea although the rest of the group first thought they would include themselves in our meeting which initially I thought was presumptuous. We had a discussion between us my partner and I as I needed to keep up with who was coming as well as who was not it was a pain really. I gave the date and time and told them I wont change times with her as she is really busy and important in our community, they agreed and said yes you don’t muck about with them cause they will remember next time. I could not agree more.
The day finally arrived with a reasonable time slot in the afternoon. We called around to our community house to run through our questions with our leader and it was a good idea as we could mesh our ideas together. I had called one of the ladies twice trying to track her down, her Husband said she knew she had a couple of meetings on today but she was out doing shopping. We had a coffee and went through questions in order 1-8. Background education school country of origin, life and times in Australia. I would then look into goals and objectives with the government budget. The politics, support and council issues what teachers she had her experiences. Her P.A greeted us in reception as i introduced the group to him as we had many chats over the phone. We were led into the chambers a place I had never seen I felt so content the creation was occuring. We finally met her and she made us feel so welcome as if it was her home. I must admit I have not always been a fan of hers but I could change. She was a little nervous as well not knowing what questions were to be asked apart from what I had relayed to her P. A. WE had given her a copy of questions and we went through them one at a time. I would be writing out her answers in point form as much as possible any way. The Mayor was very comfortable as she recounted her life in Australia as we spoke about her journey to this land her school and friends she made her first job after school and her love of language being an advantage to her family home and other Greek speaking people. The P.A took a couple of photograghs and I asked if we could have one for our newsletter which our leader gave over her camera a sony cybershot. We left at the end of the meeting greeting her and thanking the P.A for setting up the meeting.
