The Government should never ban singing in public and this explains why.
Dear Prime Minister,
I recently heard about your imposed ban on singing in public by anyone without a recording contract. Frankly I am disappointed in a government I thought would be different. The reason I am writing is to persuade you to re-think your decision.
My first point that I must bring forward is simple. How are singers supposed to get signed if they don’t sing in public? It would be impossible. This would mean that there would be no new singers and therefore no new popular music, thus putting the whole musical economy in trouble resulting in a major fail in the world’s stock market which will introduce terror on the world!
In addition, a basic human right is of course free speech! Isn’t it extremely close to singing? It is starting to look like it is coming to a point with absolutely no rights whatsoever! From what started out as a ban on singing results yet again in a wider disaster but this time for a different reason! Music is essential to the western world’s way of life and singing is essential to music. You are being irresponsible.
I, myself, will continue to sing like many other performers I know. I love singing as it makes me feel alive; it enables me to express myself and gives me freedom. If you do not change things then people are going to go mad. Singing raises morale and without high morale you are going to have a fairly depressed country, which, in turn, creates a terrible effect and a downturn in your reputation as a political party.
Have you ever sung a song? Have you ever danced? Have you ever laughed, smiled or even been happy? It is absurd to suggest music does not create any of these enjoyments! To sing is to release ones soul and to unleash a power within them never seen before. If you have never sung before, I suggest you do so as it will probably make you happier and will stop you from making stupid laws.
It is abomination for music. Just because some people do not like public singing, does it mean that the rest of country doesn’t? People have sung in public for centuries. Think of the slaves in Jamaica singing to pass the dreadful time away, the men fighting in the wars – to keep your future today – singing. It’s pure selfishness.
You must realise, Prime Minister, that there are many reasons to sing and not many reasons not to. I encourage you, I beg to find it in your heart to smile, enjoy and to sing. Sing as loud as you can! Sing for a better future! Sing about singing!
Yours Sincerely,
