Dear Pilots,

Re: An open letter of welcome - to whomever was piloting aircraft over the Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem -last week.

Humanity has been surprised and gladdened at the white orb and flashing red lights over our holiest shrine on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel, on the morning of January the 28th, 2011. What a sight! We, the people watching, name this phenomena, “Unidentified.” The descending and ascending white orb with her flash of brilliance, to us, in our lack of understanding, will remain baffling until our science has clear answers.

Talk of, “Extraterrestrials,” visiting the Earth is an assumption that many make. What we, the people of this planet, can be sure of; someone piloting these lights are signalling now to many who previously might never have seen such objects of this type in the sky.

So, this open letter, addressed to the pilots of these sky planes can roughly be imbued with a fatal assumption, “That advanced extraterrestrial races are now flying to Earth and pinpointing our sacred sights,” to a broad audience on the ground. Yet, that is just the conundrum. No – one living can be 100% sure of exactly who or what you are. This open letter therefore is addressed specifically to those who are driving these unknowable lights above our holiest lands.

As the recipient of this letter is truly and unknown quantity I progress simply in a spirit  that I would apply to anything; human, alien or animal (That I might assume to be addressing), ”You are truly welcome.”

What is a true welcome? A true welcome is loving. Kind, caring and open. Not afraid to speak that, “Welcome,” in robust tones and with an open heart. Humanity, from above truly appears a ghastly thing; our media constantly grabbing at nascent dramas and filling our lives with fear. Yet, wherever you go on this Earth, people everywhere are not afraid. They are loving. They love to welcome outsiders and even unknown forces that come into that drama we all love to watch – human history.

Our history is littered with sad tales of conquests. Colonisation of Australia and America came at a high price for some. Yet, this should never cloud the march of common history. Humans are innately willing to confront the unknown – whatever the cost – and at any price just to satisfy our longing to grow.

When the Highlanders of Papua New Guinea was first contacted by outsiders in the late – 1930`s, the people there thought Europeans to be devil – ghosts. Their first reaction was to kill the first missionary. “If he is a devil he will live. If he is a man he will die.” These folk, in the state they lived, could only use this assumption in light of what their world - view dictated. Would we, living in our time, take the same path?

I don’t believe so. So much is now known about the Universe stretching far back into our history and now, with so many new worlds being found, I believe humanity would welcome you, space pilots, who or whatever you are.

If you have the method to read this then I am happy. I can only address you as occupants of craft well above and atop anything I know. I can only address you in this open letter merely as something that, “is.” Regardless of the form.

So, “Is,” with this letter, on behalf of my fellow humanity, I would like to say, “Please, show up. You will be welcome. If you do intend to show your faces to humanity this letter is being penned just to let you grasp that most humans are simple, kind and generous. We love outsiders and always make them welcome whenever they come to visit. You would be no exception. We would welcome you as cosmic brothers and sisters in a quest that we together would share.

You are welcome here on our home, the beautiful Earth.
