Here are the lyrics to a song I penned in February of 1994. This song has laid in a box until last night (8/4/09), when I took a stab at recording it.
Warning: This song may contain sadness, heartache, and a little math and history.
A Lonely Man Was He (Hear the song)
At 17 he took a bride and raised a child by her side in the Summer of 1893.
He raised his son his very best, to ride the plains and tame the West, be proud, and speak with honesty.
He had all that he could want in life, with his son and a wife; everything, and a lonely man was he.
He watched a new century roll around, and cars and phone came into town in the Spring of 1921.
His wife took ill and then she died, they buried her and as he cried, “ALONE,” was harsh reality. Now, a lonely man was he.
He tuned to God and lost his faith, and then the bottle took its place by the Winter of 1923. Still, a lonely man was he.
He lost his son to scarlet fever by the Spring of ‘24, he turned to God and lost his faith just like he did before, and more, a lonely man was he. Oh, a lonely man was he.
A lonely man was he, with a child and a wife, placed values upon everything till he ended his own life.
