Blue is a color; it signifies a baby boy. Blue is a mood; or can be a blue -gill fish. Blue can be the color of ribbons. This poem tells what BLUE signifies for me.

BLUE

The color blue in monochromatic shades

Creates photographic memories for me:

Bringing baby boy home that first time

Dresssed in a blue hat, shirt, booties and gown.

I remember how they played “Blue Moon”

At the Senior Prom – how we danced closely

I wore my frothy formal – aquamarine blue

And later we harmonized to “Mood Indigo”.

BLUE

I remember the many blue ribbons I won

Plus all the forget-me-nots you gave me

How we’d swim in the murky blue waters

With heavy heartedness at days’ end.

Bluebells, blue bonnets, bluegrass music

Blue skies, bluejays, and playing the blues

Blue freshens memories of younger years

When we’d fish for blue gills and bass

Listening to my father’s laughter

(Thoughts of my fathier – - so long ago)

Gives birth now to my own blues

Yes, those were the best years of my life.
