About my father and his journey into oblivion and despair.

I’m standin on the corner, it’s raining, the cars go bye,
my memories of yesterday are callin, you, my home, I want to cry.
But I got to keep on walkin, find some place to spend the night,
Cause I’m so lonely, my heart is breakin, and I want off from under this neon light.

Refrain

It’s just another lonely city for Empty Pockets Joe
I should have stayed in the country, but then I didn’t know,
Innocence doesn’t last long here and the boy became a man
Stepped from the country to the city mama, why can’t you understand.
Somewhere along the way I got hard as hell,
lost most of my innocence in all those city jails
and if you ask me what it’s done to me only time will tell.

So I gotta keep on walkin find a place tonight to sleep,
get me some booze and get my head dead and find a quiet place to weep.
All my hopes, my dreams are gone, I lost them, when I lost myself,
This city has ruined me, now even the booze and the pills don’t help.

Refrain

It’s just another lonely city for Empty Pockets Joe,
This place has got me on my knees praying for my soul.
Whatever happened to the young man who came to seek his fame,
I left in in a woman’s arms broken down and lame.
It’s best I left behind because his ideals don’t fit this game and I’m runnin
out of places to hide and their is no one left to blame,
and lady if you came for this ride you find out it’s quite insane.
