To placate my longing for unreachable fruit. Had to make it fun.
Once, there was a time
Once, there was a friend of mine
We started dancing and feeling fine
O, good Jesus, you know it wasn’t a crime
Though some of the neighbors complained of the noise
Made by one of the girls along with one of the boys
A fleet of detectives arrived on the scene
We turned up the music, if you know what I mean
They searched us and cuffed us and read us our rights
It seemed we were headed for some lonely nights
A stream of reporters met us outside the door
Inside the court room we were flooded by more
It won’t take long now to get to the truth
Said the judge with a smile, ‘cept for a missing tooth
The lawyers shook hands with a nod and a wink
Sealing our fate with invisible ink
With so much confusion, I had to confess
When it comes down to dancing, that girl is the best
The judge slammed the gavel, the verdict returned
Community service was the sentence we earned
With swift execution, we started that day
O, you should have been there when the band came to play
With everyone swaying, the judge even swerved
The tabloid reported how sweet justice was served
And me and my lady were finally free
The rest of the story, well we’ll just let that be
Once, there was a time
Once, there was a friend of mine
We started dancing and feeling fine
O, good Jesus, you know it wasn’t a crime
No, not a crime
