I said there was a feud.
My Darling, it’s alarming.
You’ve been gone, so long.
I called the police to report you missing.
And they came a-fishing,
For answers.
They asked if we argued,
I said there was a feud.
I said that I raised my voice, I shouted.
And that’s when you clouted,
Me.
They asked if I reacted.
Asked if I acted,
Violently.
I said I don’t remember,
Said I’m not an offender.
Said I’d never ever hurt her,
I wouldn’t even scare her.
But I don’t remember.
They thought just because there was a dispute,
And I was bleeding, I must be a brute.
They asked if I knew of any place you may’ve gone,
Somewhere you might just be.
I said that I called your friends and family,
And they all just said they hadn’t seen you in a while.
And there was no signal for your mobile.
They asked what we argued about,
What was said to make you lash out.
I said that when you called me a disillusioned old bore,
I called you a nag, an old hag, an old whore.
That’s when you gave me what for.
They asked me to describe your appearance.
Asked what you were wearing,
The night of your disappearance.
But I couldn’t recall very much at all.
Must’ve been when she smashed the vase,
Over my head.
Or when it hit the stall,
I said.
Then a message through,
On my mobile it was from you.
I sat and read.
We need to chat, you said.
Also in the text an apology for hurting me.
Finishing off with I love you still, I always will.
Then you said you’d be back in a minute, oh damn it.
The message was sent 6 hours ago.
Where is she, I need to know.
An officer enters the room and lowers his hat.
I’m sorry to say that,
I have some bad news.
Your wife was in a road accident, she died on scene.
I started to choke, wanted to scream.
What, no, what do you mean.
What are you talking about.
Get out, I started to shout.
Fell to my knees.
No God please.
Don’t let it be true.
Why, how could you.
