A song about a woman recently broken up with a man who never loved her. Her heart is heavy and saddened, feeling he is only another reason to cry. Throughout the song, however, she picks herself up and sees the good in it.

VERSE ONE:
She was lost and abused
She’d been twisted and used
Her pain sank so deep
It knocked her off her feet
Sitting alone in the hall she stared at the floor
But then he came along and he broke her fall

PRE-CHORUS ONE:
And he made her happy, oh, she felt so free
She said “finally somebody really cares for me”
And he made her happy, oh, she felt so pretty
But she said “happy-ever-after never works for me”

VERSE TWO:
She was lost and abused
She’d been tormented and used
Her tears fell off her cheek
They made her feel so weak
Crying all alone it was so hard for her to stand
But then he came along and he took her hand
And he’d hold her close and he’d give her a kiss
Then he’d look in her eyes and say “you’ll make it through this”
Once a friend, then a lover, and she wanted no other
He was her friend and her lover, but he always wanted another

CHORUS:
She’d lay in bed and cry
And fight so hard just to try
To forget about him and forget all they’d been
She’d try so hard cause she didn’t want to part
But every night those tears streamed down her cheek
Cause she could kiss his lips and she could hold his hand
But she knew she could never have his heart
And there’s no reason why, he’s just another reason to cry

VERSE THREE:
And to everyone else she pretended not to know
And she told herself she wouldn’t let the pain show
But every time she would look into his eyes
Deep down inside she always wanted to cry
And she knew that with him it was such a mixed feeling
So she never let herself give him everything
Because right from the very start
He was slowly breaking her heart

PRE-CHORUS TWO:
But he’d made her happy, oh, she’d felt so free
But she said “no one ever really can care for me”
And he’d made her happy, oh, she’d felt so pretty
But she said “happy-ever-after never works for me”

And there’s no reason why, you’re just another reason to cry

BRIDGE:
He’s not a reason to try
He’s not a reason to fly
Not a reason to feel such an incredible high
Cause at the end of it all
He’s just another reason to cry,
Yeah, you’re just another reason to cry

VERSE FOUR:
But time heals wounds so she put on her perfume
And she brushed her hair although he wasn’t there
Because wounds heal with time and she knew she’d be fine
So she put him behind her and put the world in front of her
And she let her love die and she dried her eyes
Because he’ll never be her reason to cry

LAST CHORUS:
Oh, never, never, never, no
He’ll never be her reason to cry
Yeah he’s gone, yeah, and she’s movin’ on, yeah
And he’ll never be her reason to cry
No, you’ll never be my reason to cry
I said, you’ll never be my reason
(slows)
To cry
