A friend mistakenly thought I’d written this about his situation. I will one day, in prose.

You see her smile is gone from your hand
You see she’s crying and you lose your command
Your see her ribbons are now covered with sand
That the see drew from you when the water began

If I could help you, I would tell you the word
I cannot say what I have never heard
The singer stumbles with the featherless bird
That the sky has refused and the music slurred

You look so tired and you look so ashamed
For the beast who was wild was the beast that was blamed
And you never had flowers that were never untamed
They were glass in your mirror, they were faithfully named

O, you called them prostrations, and you called them to dine
You called them your ladies and you called them divine
And you said you were crazy and you had not the time
For while you were searching you had nothing to find

Come on get closer, look for the door
It is under the rug, it is under the floor
And when you find Jesus you will be as before
With the rain and the flowers and your love ever sure

You see her smile; it has painted your mind
You see she’s crying and you’ve lost your design
You see your mirror is an echoing time
Is there somebody looking, is there someone to find?

Go on and shout it, I will not tell
The secret lies in a wishing well
Beneath the water lies a dizzying spell
Some call it heaven or the musical bell

You are my brother, you are my friend
You are my lover, my sister and then
I am the water, the river at bend
And when you reached me there was sand in my hand
