Story about playing a round of disc golf.

Placing my bag on the ground I’m now faced with the decision that boggles my mind every time I come here.  At one point or another I have thrown my whole bag at this course.  Unfortunately, my selection is limited not to the number of molds in my bag but the level of my talent.

This time I decide to think a little more outside the box.  Instead of going around the obstacle and placing myself into even a worse position, I decide to take them head on.  I pull a red XD out of my bag.  This is a disc that has always shown me the love I needed to get out of a tight spot.  I give it a throw and surprisingly enough it does exactly what I ask of it, heading straight forr the trees.  I brace myself at the point of contact not knowing if the disc will careen one way or another but the disc punches through falling to the ground just pass the trees.  Letting out my breath I think to myself, “Well, that went as well as could be expected.”

I walk up to the disc and are pretty happy with the results.  Sure, definitely wasn’t the best drive but with my past history it has put me in one of the best positions to complete this hole.  I place my marker and pick up my XD again deciding to “reward” it with a second shot.  I find that discs take on a personality of their own.  Some days they have your back and get you out of jams.  Others days they can be vindictive lovers that wait until the most inopportune time to remind you who really is in charge of the relationship.  For this instance the XD has treated me well and I want to give it a chance to feel the chains.

As I get into my stance I look at the basket looming above my head.  A few trees stand between me and the basket but it is really the difference in elevation that is the concern.  As I pull my arm back preparing to release I let out a deep breath and say not only to myself but my companion residing in my hand, “it’s not the first shot but the second that makes the hole.”  I let the disc fly.

Today, she loves me.
