A retired police officer lost enjoyment in life but he finds God to help him.
A Fight to the Finish
It was the first day of spring and I was just enjoying this good weather. The birds were singing in the sky, and the flowers were starting to bloom. The people were shopping, eating inside local restaurants, and suddenly, I heard multiply gun shots. Everyone sprinted for safety, running inside stranger’s homes, hiding behind cars, screaming for their lives, because they were terrified of what was happening around them.
But me, I stayed to see if the man that was shot in the alleyway was still breathing. I crept over slowly and very cautiously and I asked him, “Are you ok”? But I already knew the answer to my question, because he was on the ground wounded in a pool of blood dripping from his body and grasping for air. The victim grabbed my right leg so tightly, I pulled back and when I pulled my leg back, he said, “Help me, please don’t let me die”.
I told him that I would do everything in my power to save him. I did not want to see him die and luckily, as a retired police officer, I was certified for CPR and First Aid.

I was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time. I did not want to touch him, because I was thinking about the major diseases that are out there. I didn’t have any gloves to protect myself, because this victim was bleeding all over, but I knew what I needed to do to save his life. As soon as I attempted to bend down and save this man’s life, I heard a click and I felt a hard piece of metal in the back of my head. I tried to ask him a question, but he told me to “shut the fuck up and not move”. So I said, “Ok sir”.
As he was going through my pockets he asked me, “What the hell are you doing here”? I said, “The guy was shot and I was trying to save his life”, He said, “Say What”, so I said, “I was trying to save this man before he die”. The next thing I know I was hit in the back of the head with a pistol, and a witness who saw the incident from across the street dialed 911 from her cell phone.
