This is the first chapter in a mystery/romance novel. Ms.Naylor and Detective Barrien meet and do not hit off to begin with. It ends with the door being shut in the detectives face.

                                                 CHAPTER ONE

“Can I help you?” “yes, I’m detective Barrien, I need to ask you a few questions”. “Oh, well come on inside.” It had been a week since I had discovered the lifeless body of my former ex husband lying on my couch when I had gotten home from work. “now Ms. Naylor you claim to not know how your ex husband ended up dead on your couch is that correct?” ” Yes that is correct and you can call me Cara.” “I will call you Ms. Naylor.” The detective was an average height, maybe 5′7, he had a muscular build, wide shoulders, and arms that looked like a second pair of well muscled legs sprouting from his shoulders. ” So you are asking me to believe that your ex husband whom you have divorced with a feeling of hatred just coincidentally turns up dead on your couch?” He fired this question at me with a disapproving frown upon his face, that read loud and clear, he did not believe me. Nobody believed me, not him not the chief of police who had questioned me non stop ever since the discovery, not the townspeople who had adored my ex husband and worshipped him as a respected member of society. I was fed up with all the questions, I wanted to prove to everyone that I was innocent, and as much as I disliked my ex-husband, I did not murder him. ” Listen here Detective Barrien I did not murder my husband, and your job is to prove that I didn’t. that is what I hired you for, not to stand here on my front doorstep and ask questions that imply you do not believe me.” “well quite frankly Ms. Naylor, I do believe you”. This came as quite a shock, I was not expecting him to believe my innocence. ” You do? Why?” “is there a reason I should not believe you?” “No, there isn’t, I just want to know why you do believe me”. “Ms. Naylor can I come inside, you invited me in earlier but you did not open the screen door.” I was standing directly in front of him on the other side of the screen door.” You can come inside when you answer my question Detective Barrien.” Ok Ms. if that what you want to hear then i will tell you, First off I don’t think you have what it takes to murder someone you are to much of a goody goody to get your hands dirty with germs much less blood, second if you were to be responsible for murder, I believe you would have hired someone else to do it for you, and it would not have happened in your house because I do not believe you are that dumb, but then again I could be wrong.” He looked up just in time to see the hard oak wood door shut in his face.
