When the collection has been confirmed the answer is devastating. The impact of this finding stretches far beyond the lives and families of the two women.

“Maybe, can I see what it would be like?”
“With it you’ll look just like I do.”
“Of course, we could do this the old way, we jack you up with hormones and about the time for ovulation, we have to do a sonogram every day. That’s expensive, time consuming, inexact and you’d have to be in a hospital every day for about a week. When we get the time, we cut your belly open and take out the ova. We have to do that every time. This has some negatives but it will be less impact on your schedule and give us a better chance of success.”
“Let’s go to lunch while I think.” By the time lunch was over, Peggy had agreed to return the following week for the surgery. She would stay two or three days, then return to Washington. Once there, she would monitor her own ovaries. When they looked ready, she would hook the camera to a web cam port on a PC and transmit a picture over the internet. If they were she would come to Harrisburg for the harvesting and return to Washington the same day. Joan had agreed to try to have the harvesting done overnight.”
