A pathologist examines two dead young women and passes sections of organs to pathology for examination. The pathologist examines the specimens and questions the accuracy of the collection of tissue. When the collection has been confirmed the answer is devastating. The impact of this finding stretches far beyond the lives and families of the two women.

Joan ran into Stan in the parking lot on the way in. “If you get a chance, we need to talk sometime today.”
“What procedure do you have?”
“A couple of routines, I will be free at about 11.”
“I’ll be in the cafeteria about 11:30. The wife isn’t cooking much, the cafeteria food looks good. The wife is in a family way again. She is sure sexy but the cooking makes her sick.”
“See you.”
At eleven ten they were seated together. Joan began. “I have a moral dilemma. I know I crime was committed but to divulge that, I have to violate doctor-patient privilege.”
“Don’t bother. Just listen. I think you treated a patient that tried to induce bleeding to have a histy. Don’t do anything if that is the case. As a pathologist, I have a little more freedom. I reported my concerns from the other day to the CDC and Selective Service using statistics. They issued a subpoena for some hospital records.”
“Thanks. I couldn’t do it and felt terrible for not doing it.”
“It’s out of our hands.”
Peggy arrived back for her next harvesting. The previous time there were only four usable ova. This time there were eight.
After the donation, Joan came in. “When do you want us to implant you for your own child? You seem to be sufficiently healed to handle it. I’d suggest we wait till next month, then do it two days after your next donation. Your hormones should be about the right level.”
“Sounds good to me.”
By now Joan was obviously pregnant.
