The beginning of an relationship as teenagers that starts the path to always be the other woman.
As far back as I can remember, I have always been the other woman. I think it all started when I was 15 or 16, my best friend Rose had a boyfriend, John. John and Rose had begun dating after Rose had dated John’s brother, Peter and didn’t quite work out. John and Rose were both a little older than me so that allowed me to hang out with the upper classmen of high school. Even though she was in high school, Rose for some reason was in a real hurry to start a family. It didn’t come to fruition with Peter, but John was about to be a daddy. Other than an unexpected pregnancy, John had been doing really well in school, so when his birthday came along his parents gave him a nice sports car. It was a nice Camaro Z28, the kind of car any young guy would like. It also meant that pregnant Rose wouldn’t have to walk to school anymore and on occasion they would pick me up. Often times after school we would ride around in John’s car, whether to just go grab a bite to eat or to visit his grandparent’s home. Sometimes we would all go to the park and our guy friends would get together to play basketball. We all had fun times together.
One day out of the blue I get a phone call from John. He says, “Hey Gema, Rose wanted me to call you and ask you if you wanted to go to the lake tonight with us.” I questioned as to what was going on at the lake or what time we would all go. He said about midnight and it was just the usual hanging out we had all done before. Sounded great to me. So midnight it was! The time for me to sneak out of my parent’s home and wait for John and Rose to pick me up. John shows up as planned, but once I got in the car I found no Rose. I asked where Rose was, he said she was at home and we would swing by to pick her up. When he said at home, I didn’t realize it was 30 minutes away from where we were, a whole other city and it was very close to the lake.
Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep on the road and was awaken by John giving me a kiss with us parked in front of the lake. I quickly sat up and asked where Rose was. He said she didn’t know he was out with me, but he had really wanted to see me only. There we were at the lake with total darkness only the moonlight reflecting on the water. That was the first time that John and I had sex. I wasn’t sure why I did it, maybe it was something for me to just do at that given time. I kept thinking oh my God what if Rose finds out. Not sure why but it still didn’t stop me from steaming up the car windows. He drove me back home only to remind me not to mention anything to Rose. That was the beginning of everything with John.
