The airplane, flying to San Diego from Mexico City.
Existence…! The pain of living…! How does one bear it for a full lifetime? 50, 60, 80,100 years! And yet we cling to life, we keep on moving, and pushing, and getting up every new sunrise, and as I think of why I put up with it, I can only come up with one word: hope! The hope of something better!

My motel room in San Diego.
Ironic! As I read what I wrote earlier, I can only think of how ironic,
life really is. I have come to know her face. The face of the soul that
means everything to me, and yet I don’t know if I feel worse or better. It was a great joy of course. When I saw her I knew she was the one. I knew it right away, for I had always felt her essence in the chore of my soul. I had known we would meet some day.
When I arrived at the theater straight from the airport, on the street, before I went in, there was a strange prelude. A very attractive woman walked by my side. I felt a connection, she looked at me, and I know she also felt attracted to me, but I knew she wasn’t her, the one! In a strange way, I felt relieved, because at that moment, I knew well as I have always known, that if she had been the one, I would have had to turn my back on my destiny.
Then slowly and resigned, still with some sort of hope in my heart, I went inside the theater towards my audition. I came into the lobby of the theater. There was a sign; Singers to the right, audience to the left. I thought about it for a moment. I still had some time to spare, so I said to myself, “Mh. Let’s see what other singers sound like in other parts of the world”, and I chose to be part of the audience for a while.
