A prologue to a story about a group of ex-soldiers making a journey across the land of Harin.

A small boy ran through the woods with a small band of mercenaries following closely behind him. One of the men threw a knife as the young boy leaped over a fallen tree. A small opening could be seen through the forest, and the child sprinted for the gap. As he cleared the woods a giant monolith loomed out of the trees. He made his way to it just as the mercenaries charged out of the forest. A guard at the tower heard the shouts of anger and fright, and looked over the balcony towards the chase. He picked up a longbow from the floor and, aiming towards the first pursuer, let loose a single shaft. The arrow flew true towards its target and hit the man in the chest, sending him back into another. The guard pulled a lever on the wall, and a bell rang out around the tower. Moments later a regiment of cavalry charged out of an open gate, spears raised high. The horses sprinted to the pursuit, just as a large net was thrown over the child. The remaining mercenaries hauled the child away, back to the forest.
