The story continues on Barry Tone and the Golden Baton.
Dear Diary:
Entry Number 7. Music Theory was boring. Arthur Jenson taught the class. He has a monotone voice that could put anyone to sleep. Most of the lecture was information that I was already familiar with. I was give a two page assignment to end the class. My next class is in Music History. I hope this is better. Performance classes are in the afternoon. I can’t wait for lunch.
Entry Number 8. Music History was fascinating. I learned about two great composers, Hayden and Mozart. Dr. Laura Cummings is the instructor. She wears the weirdest glasses. Her outfit is colorful and loud. I guess you could call her hip. She also has long, brown hair that almost touches the ground. Harmony was right. I’m going to enjoy this class a lot.
Entry Number 9. Time for lunch. Harmony and Ben are sitting at my table. I’m having a tuna sandwich. Ben is telling me about the Aura of Glow. It seems that the Aura of Glow is an ancient ring that comes from India. The ring is made of gold with etchings of the moon, the stars, and the Earth. Ben shows me the ring. According to Ben, the ring has mystical powers. The person who wears the ring can reveal truths about the hidden thoughts of friends and strangers. Ben has never seriously tried to utilize the power of the ring. He plans to use it while he is at the Music Citadel. Meanwhile, Harmony tells me that her class Musical Enlightenment is very inspirational. For the next five minutes, she tells me all about her class. I can’t wait until next year to take this class. Ben interrupts my conversation with Harmony to talk about his brief learning about Sir Volta Viola. “Listen,” said Ben. “There once was a student named Volta Desmond. He was a brilliant musician. He played several instruments. However, he was particularly fond of the viola. Consequently, he was known at the school as Volta Viola. It appears that Volta became a star student. He loved classical music. He learned about every facet of music. Volta soon frowned on any music that wasn’t classical in nature. He started putting down students who did not share his love of the classics. Eventually, he started getting into fights. Volta was in his final year at the Music Citadel. Because of his fighting, he was expelled from the school. Now it gets interesting. Volta swore that he would take revenge on the school by destroying its very foundation. He said that ten years hence from now he would return to the Music Citadel to destroy it. At the time, Volta was 18 years old. It is now ten years since he made his threat. So Barry, what do you think of the story?” I was shaking my head. I couldn’t believe it. Harmony next spoke, “There is a lot of truth in what Ben says. I have heard about this rumor too. Perhaps, the Conductor can tell us more about this Volta Viola.” I agreed that if the rumor were true then we needed to know more about this Volta character. I promised to ask the Conductor during my private meeting. I told Ben and Harmony that I would tell them what I have learned at dinner. We then left the dining hall.
