Catching fire by Suzzane Collins – A plot with a sentence per chapter.

Katniss has returned home to District Twelve, and all seems to be as normal as possible until she comes face to face with president snow. He tells her that when she pulled out the berries, she unknowingly sparked a rebellion, and the only way to keep her friends and family alive was to show no signs of rebellion during her tour. With that in mind, she readies to leave on her tour, telling Haymitch about her meeting and hoping for the best. They enter district 11, Rue’s district, and while Katniss once again speaks from the heart, she creates an uproar and causes a riot. After this, Katniss does her best with the tours, and when they end, she meets President Snow: unfortunately she didn’t do enough.

There indeed was an uprising in district 8, and it could only mean trouble. Back at home, things change as new peacekeepers come in, with their strict rules and already whip Gale unconscious and near-death. Katniss’s mother is able to save him to her delight. While hunting outside her district (illegally), she runs into some rebels on her side, who are heading for a mythical district 13, giving Katniss new hopes and ideas, but now the fence has turned on its electrical current and she is trapped outside of the district. She manages to get home but the subject of district thirteen is pondered by her all day, until she concludes that there has to be something of use in district 13. Unfortunately, no one sees it coming: this year is the quarter quell and Katniss is going back to the hunger games.

After a month of training, Katniss is forced to say her good-byes and boards the train to the Capitol. She sits with Peeta to begin to know their competitions, as all of the contestants are a part of past hunger games, and her only goal is to keep Peeta alive. Now they all go to have a nice dinner, but to her horror, Darius, the ex-Peacekeeper of district 12, is now an avox (slave without tongue). Her only chance of keeping Peeta alive is to get herself killed, so during the 1-hour skill sessions, she hangs a dummy and puts the name of the head game maker on it, to draw herself attention. During her last show in public, she turns into a mockingjay “metaphorically”. Now is the time for the games, her last good-byes are said as she steps into the arena, which is a water themed one. After the initial killing, she manages to escape with Peeta and two other trustable people, but Peeta hits the force field and dies. Finnick uses CPR to revive him, and in the midst of the night a poisonous fog comes about, forcing them to flee.  Now, they are attacked by hostile and lethal monkeys, which force them to the edge, an instant before death, a tribute from district 6 sacrifices herself. After all is settled, Katniss teams up with Nuts and Bolts, along with Johanna to form a new union. While sitting to prepare traps and weapons, Katniss hears the scream of what is likely her sister, and runs for the sound.

It is indeed not her sister, and the days drag by as the team ventures on, and Katniss begins thinking of what a world without the capitol and the hunger games would be like. The games are approaching end, but an ingenious plan to take out anyone on the beach emerges, requiring an obtained wire which runs from a tree that is struck by lightning daily to electrocute a beach, and anyone on it. Near death, Katniss is about to do this when she realizes that this energy could take out the forcefield, and at the last second completes the circuit with the force field. She wakes up to see gale, her in a hovercraft, and realizes that district 13 is the destination and that her district is dead, which marks the end of the book.
