(Unfinished)Chapter one of a book I’m writing, A Bend In the Road.

Chapter One

“Amy, get up!” Amy’s mother hollered from downstairs. “It’s time to get ready for school, and you can’t be late for the last day!” Amy Slowly crawled out of bed and looked at her clock. It was six forty-two, and she had to go out for the bus at seven fifteen. She rushed to get ready, and hurried out for the bus. Her phone buzzed. She had gotten a text from her best friend, Nikki. It read Happy 10th Best Friend Anniversary!

For years, Amy and Nikki had had a Best Friend Anniversary, and they have had it every year on June 17th since they were four. They had gotten each other presents for their special occasion, as usual. Amy had gotten Nikki a charm for her Pandora bracelet, a horse head for Nikki’s love of horses.  Nikki had gotten Amy a “Friends Forever” necklace that was shaped as a broken heart, one side for Amy and one side for herself.

“I can’t believe it’s the last day of school already. We really have to get together sometime this summer,” Nikki said to Amy. “And we can’t just say we’re going too, we have too.” The girls laughed.

“Yeah, we do. And oh yeah, I got you this for our Best Friend Anniversary. I know it’s not much, but…” Amy got cut off.

“Not much? This is the one I’ve always wanted! Thank you so much!” Nikki said as she hugged Amy as hard as she could. “And I got you this. Mine’s the one that’s not much,” Nikki said. She handed the “Friends” half over to Amy and both girls put on each side.

“I really love this. Thanks so much!” Amy said. The bell rang and both girls headed off to their buses.
