1.      1. Graffin’s original motivation for going punk was to become a part of a “group of social and musical misfits.” Essentially, he wanted to have a musical identity, one that was not widely popular, though going punk later meant a method of self-expression.

2.      2. It gave him a sense of power, as he realized that conformists, unlike him, were often frail and could be pushed to a point in which they had no control.

3.      3. A modern historical figure that may be considered punk would be Martin Luther King Jr. He fought for rights in an institution that did not have any for colored people. He made it clear that the racist dogma that had engulfed the United States for centuries must be abolished. Others include a plethora of Chinese dissidents who, despite the high risk of imprisonment, challenge China’s communist government and their authoritarian practices, most notably Liu Xiaobo who is currently being imprisoned for his fourth time on charges of trying to undermine the state’s power.
