Jentry and his sister listened intently to the young boy. Although he was seemingly but a child, the words that came from within him were very powerful and hinted of coming from another that shared a soul older than time itself. The two of them hung on his every word as if caught within a magical web, unable to shift their attention away and onto other matters that needed to be attended to. The moon was now shining and allowing enough light to travel part way towards their destination and it was time to move out.
Chapter Seven White Wolf Part Three
Jentry and his sister listened intently to the young boy.
Lisa smiled warmly at young White Wolf; she drew his attention by pointing up at the hunter’s moon that now had risen above the backdrop of the mountains that loomed in the distance ahead. She began to speak. Well sweetie if what you’re saying comes to pass one day soon, then you need to hide that Blue Diamond where no one can get it! We need to get moving right now though. Maybe when we stop to rest in the morning you can tell us more?
White wolf smiled at the two of them and then stared down at mother wolf that was nibbling affectionately on his fingers. He could sense her uneasiness and ran his fingers through her fur. It’s ok WA ya. He whispered, as he kneeled now on the ground in front of her and father White Wolf. The two of them stared deep into their man child’s eyes. They both spoke softly commanding young White Wolf’s attention.
Young one it is I. Your mother! WA ya is allowing me to speak through her to you. Child do not come for me or Billy Two Feather’s! We are being used as bait in a trap that one not of the earth realm has set for you! My gifts are limited compared to those which the one that holds us captive are. I do not know how long I can shield you; I will try to though. Let the wolves be your eyes and ears this night. They’re your protectors! Child of the wolf, I love you!
Tears rolled down his face as he looked away from the wolves, pass his two friends in the direction of the mountains. Thoughts of his mother and Billy wade heavy on his mind. Pointing at the trail ahead, he spoke once more to the wolf pack. Go my friends and may spirit guide your feet, become your ears and eyes ahead. Turning toward his two companions, he whispered. Let’s go the night is short and we have many miles to cover before the sun rises yet again!
The three of them made great progress as the night progressed and it was soon to be morning when they stood atop the mountain range that overlooked a thin strip of clearing below. Jentry did not like the uneasy feelings he was getting from the strip of land between them and the other mountain range they needed to cross. Turning to Lisa and White Wolf he spoke.
Something does not feel right down there! Maybe we need to find another way around that area? What do you think kid? It just feels out of place! Like its dead or something! Where are your wolves? I have not seen them at all since you first sent them to travel ahead of us. Something just does not feel right! It’s almost too easy! He said, again.
Lisa was also noticing that something felt very wrong and out of place. She listened for the sounds of the wild creatures as they welcome the first rays of the morning light. She heard nothing, not even the sound of the wind which usually rustled the leaves on the trees in the forest.
Well kid you know this area. Should we go around or through it? It’s your call! Jentry whispered. Then reaching into his vest he pulled out two handguns and handed one to his sister; just click the safety off, point and squeeze the trigger if you need to use it! He said.
White wolf spoke now in reply to Jentry’s questions; his answer was short and direct. Cannot go around! Only way is to go through! My brother and sister wolves are fine! I would know if they were not. So we must go down and across the clearing below! We can use the scattered clumps of trees in the clearing as cover if we stay very low to the ground, he said as he pointed to them down below.
Although he tried not to let it show, he was also feeling very uneasy. They began repelling down the steep walls of the granite cliffs to the valley far below. White wolf scanned the area below searching for anything that might look out of place; all appeared to be quiet. Maybe it was to quiet?

Jentry stood near the cliff walls at the bottom waiting for the boy and Lisa as the two of them slowly made their way down in his direction. He pulled out his compass, open the case and tapped on the face of the glass trying to get the arrow inside which appeared to be froze in place to move. Looking around he noticed that the landscape seemed to have changed; was nothing like that which was seen from above. In fact, if he didn’t know better, he would swear it was totally different. When next he looked back down at his compass, he notice that the arrow inside was now spinning out of control in the reverse direction.
What’s wrong? Lisa asked, as she touched down on the ground with her feet, unhooked her rock climbing gear and walked over to where he stood starring down at the compass in his hand.
Not sure I know sis! The needle on the compass is spinning in reverse; I think it’s the mineral composites in the cliffs. They’re screwing up my compass and also affecting my watch as the hands are also moving in reverse on it as well! Something is just not right about all of this! You stay with kid; I need to check something out. If I’m not back within the hour, you and little White Wolf go on without me!
No we will wait for you! The three of us must all stay together! It will be safer this way! She replied. Upon noticing the worrisome look on her brother’s face, Lisa moved in closer to him reached out and hugged him. Damn you brother! Promise me you will be very careful? Don’t take chances; remember there are those that really need you and depend on you still.
Jentry looked over in White Wolf’s direction smiled and assured his sister that he was just going to scout the trail ahead and make sure that it was safe for them to proceed. Keep a close watch on the kid! The both of you make sure you stay together; I’ll signal you when I am sure it is safe to move through the clearing to the other side. Don’t worry! I’m just playing this by the book sis! Recon, Recon and more Recon! It’s better to be safe than sorry! Then turning away he disappeared into the woods that lined the clearing.
Little White Wolf sat by Lisa on the ground next to an overhang of granite which jutted out from the wall of the cliff. Your brother will be ok; the wolves are very near and they watch over him from the cover of the trees. He should not have gone off alone though. This place is not safe! He said. Then fidgeting about as if trying to hide something from her, he stood upright and walked in the direction of a nearby tree. Reaching into his medicine bag he remove what looked like a huge piece of petrified wood and placed it near the base of the tree. Then removing several small crystals he made a grid with them, fashioning a circle as he placed them carefully upon the ground.
What are you making? Lisa asked.
A protection grid he replied softly.
What is it that you hide from me? You know something that you do not wish me to know! Why does this place feel so wrong almost void of life? Where is my brother? He is long overdue! If you know something I think you need to tell me! She pleaded.
She looked away from the boy only briefly trying not to let him see her tears. When she turns to look at him again, he was no longer there! In the place where he once stood, now loomed a tall dark very sinister figure of a man! Lisa fell backwards onto the ground kicking with her feet as his move in her direction! Her unknown attacker reached down grabbed her by the hair, lifting her up in the air and shook her violently!
Where is the child? Foolish women! You and your brother cannot protect or save him from his fate! He has something I want! Tell me where he is or I’ll remove your flesh from your bones!
White Wolf jumped from somewhere above her attacker; his feet landing in the center of its back. The force of his blow causing the attacker to release her from its deadly grip! Lisa fell to the ground and rolled to safety!
He hit their attacker again sending it staggering backwards!
The man lunged forwards grabbing the boy by the throat and slammed him onto the ground! White Wolf couldn’t move! His air drained from his lungs and darkness was almost upon him as he began to slip away into unconsciousness! That’s when he heard Old Dragon speak to him!
Child of the wolf, Guardian of the crystals, Release that which you hold at bay within you! You cannot fight the Windigo alone! Release the Dark Wolf! Do it now or all will be lost! Let your protector wolf out! Do not tether him with bindings of energy and release him now!

White wolf heard the eerie howling of a lone wolf fill the air as he stared up into the eyes of the Windigo! The attacker now took on its true form! Eyes a glow it bent over him, reaching towards the medicine bag as the glow of the blue diamond caught its attention! Suddenly his attacker fell backwards as if hurled aside by an invisible hand!
Lisa came to his aid pulling the boy to safety! They watched as the two fought it out near the grid of protection on the ground. The Windigo was no match for the fury of the dark wolf! It stepped backwards into the circle upon the ground! White Wolf reached inside his medicine bag and removed an odd shaped stone! Jumping to his feet he hurled it into the center of the grid which exploded with the purest white light that Lisa had ever seen! Go Windigo! You cannot have me my friends or the Blue Diamond!
I’ll be back! The Windigo growled as it disappeared with the puff of smoke from the explosion.
The Dark Wolf came to the two of them as they held on to each other on the ground. He was huge. He gently nuzzled the boys hand and then without warning turned away and vanished into the mist that was now starting to overtake the valley.
