This is the first "book" I wrote way back when I was fourteen years old. I am thinking about rewriting it and could use some suggestions and overall feedback on the plot and story in general. Thank you for your help!

Riley had promised after leaving the police station that she would not go back to the cops. Shannon was angry; she could not believe Riley had lied to her! Imagine her surprise when there was a loud knocking on her front door and two detectives asked to come in. At first she was reluctant but now she was sitting in the living room with an unwanted interview.

Mark was giving Shannon a deep look of disappointment. It was a look she detested. He sat there with his slick-backed hair and crisp uniform trying to look professional but it wasn’t working. As hard as he tried he could not be aggressive with Shannon, not even when she rebelled against the older detective’s questions.

The older detective was much more stern. Shannon knew him more than she was pleased with. McGrowin had been assigned to her father’s case. It made her sick to think he had given up so easily.

Detective McGrowin scowled at her, his sagging brow was pushed up into countless wrinkles. “Miss Larson.” He hissed, “You had no right to leave us in the dark about the murder of Mr. Selven.”

“Mr. Selven was the owner of a large newspaper industry. His columns were known to splatter the truth about people all over its pages. Anyone whose life had been displayed might want him dead.” Shannon argued, “Why should I risk the same person coming after me?”

McGrowin smirked, “Your not that valuable to society Miss Larson.”

Mark gave him a warning look, “Frank your remark was not necessary to the witness.”

Mark had spoken too late. Shannon was on her feet, temper rising. “Why would I come to you anyways? The way you solve cases this will just become another unsolved murder!”

McGrowin stood up also; he opened his mouth in anger then stopped casting sideways glance in Mark’s direction. Shannon knew he wouldn’t do anything with another uniform present. No one moved or spoke. The hatred between the two could not be shot down.

Finally McGrowin turned and left. The slamming of the door echoed throughout the house. Mark shook his head, “Shannon your going to get yourself in trouble one of these days.”

“I wasn’t doing anything illegal! He is the one who practically threatened me!”
