This is the first "book" I wrote way back when I was fourteen years old. I am thinking about rewriting it and could use some suggestions and overall feedback on the plot and story in general. Thank you for your help!
Riley was already sorting a new shipment of books when Shannon walked in. Riley worked part time at the Zodiac but always came around when she didn’t need to. Shannon always appreciated the extra help. She helped Riley sort the books then they went in the back so any customers wouldn’t hear them.
Riley started talking first. “Ok. I will admit that I do want to solve a mystery but why do we have to solve a murder? Seriously this guy has already killed one person possibly more I really don’t want to piss him off!”
“Well isn’t that the whole point? Skirting around danger and getting the adrenaline rush of getting into situations you may not come out of?”
“You have been living alone way too long.” Riley laughed. “What the hell, we are both daredevils so why not. What could possibly happen right?”
“Exactly what I wanted to hear. So now we just need to make a plan.”
“Ok. First things first, we need to work our day and then we can go to your house and think about what we are going to do from there.”
“Your right, as usual…” A door slammed from the main part of the bookshop. “What the heck?”
Shannon and Riley ran out from the back of the shop. They looked around but the store was empty. The front door stood partially opened. Neither of them moved. Both were frozen and eyes searching for an intruder.
Shannon walked over and securely shut the door. “It was probably just the wind or something.”
Riley looked at her in an alarmed way. “Just the wind? Are you kidding me? Shannon be serious there is not one branch on the trees outside even twitching and you know it!”
“Ok lets just think logically. There were people in here right? Maybe one of them had to leave in a rush and slammed the door by accident.”
“I don’t know. I mean it was just so creepy. We were talking about what we are going to do about a murder and then someone storms out? What if they were listening in on us?”
“There was no one listening in on us. Trust me.”
