Denise Shore was the sometimes naughty girl next door in the TV series "School Days". her partying and drinking got in the way of work and soon she could find no work.

Denise looked over at the answering machine. The light was flashing. She pressed the button and they started playing. Two were party invitations. The third was from the company that held the mortgage on her home. She was being notified that she was in arrears of more than six months and unless payment for at least three months was made by close of business on the thirtieth of the month they would begin foreclosure.

She called her business manager and asked why she had not made the house payments. She responded that there was no money in the checking account. She had notified Denise of this on dates she specified.

“How much is the mortgage payment?”

“Sixty Three thousand a month. We need over $360,000 to get current.  I can probably buy some time with half that, let’s say 180.”

“I have to get some work. I can make ten times that in one movie. See if you can get the bank to give me some time.”

“You could sell one of the cars. That would give you enough to pay one payment.”

“I’m not selling the cars.”

“That would give you some time.”

“I am not selling the fucking cars.”

“Fine. But you need some money soon or they will foreclose on the house.”

Denise hung up and called Mark Black, her agent. She explained that she needed some work and she needed it now.

“I do have one job that I could try to get for you. It is a secondary part in a Fritz production. In spite of your reputation they may snap at an opportunity to make a movie with your name on the credits. The public likes you but the producers in town can’t afford you.”

“How much will it pay?”

“Six hundred thousand, tops.”

“I can’t work for that. I get five times that.”

“I will be frank, you can’t afford to pass this up. And let me be more frank, you can’t afford to screw this up if you get it.”

“What do you mean? I am good, I have appeal.”

“With the fans, yes. With the studios, no. And the studios do the booking. Your drinking and attitude have made you an undesirable. The last director said you cost more in lost time than they paid you. Right now I will have a hard time selling you to Fritz. But if you screw this one up you might as well head back to Minnesota and be a waitress.”
