Unable to find work Denise Shore goes back to see Fritz. He offers another contract but it is not better.
Denise’s business manager had told her she would probably get $30,000 for the furniture at best and would have to buy some pieces and pay to decorate the new house. The actor had allowed her to keep most of the pieces in the house she was buying other than the ones that had sentimental value. It was not extravagant but it was nice. He also tagged a few pieces in her home that were not to their liking.
The mover shook his head. “We usually get over $40,000 for a move like this. Right now I’ll estimate this at $5,000 for Denise and $7,000 for Victor. We can do it in one day.”
Victor looked over at the mover. “Just make my bill $12,000. She works for the same studio I do, we will be working together. It is the least I can do for a co-worker.”
Denise started to protest. He looked at her. “The boss told me this morning he signed you and he thinks you will be great. I have heard a lot of negative things but if Donald says it, it is probably right. I’ll assume the rumors are wrong for now.”
She shook his hand and thanked him. She had never been treated this well by anyone before.
When she arrived at the studio the following day she was handed what looked like a script folder. She opened it and pulled out the file in it. The front sheet was interesting. She was going on a promotion tour for the studio. It would be twelve weeks of travel in an RV with three other women. She was to go home, pack her things and get ready to get on the road on Sunday afternoon at one. She had Thursday, Friday and Saturday to clear her things. She was to let her business manager know she could be reached through the Fritz studio. She should meet the other travelers at the studio. Two movers would be there to help her pack her personal things on Thursday and Friday. They would be moved to her new home when the furniture was switched. Her business manager would handle the closing of the house for her. If things went well she would return from the trip to a new home. Other pages gave locations, contacts, and what she was to do at each place. She looked at the last sheet in the pack. It was a list of the days working. The first month had twenty six working days. It showed the calculations. The first twelve were contract. That left 14 at $800 a day. The bonus was $11,200. The next month had only 20 days assigned. That meant the bonus money was only $6400. Not great but good.
