They went into a drug store and came out with a four pair of metal Canadian crutches. Denise sat quietly as they picked them out and paid for them. She wanted to know why there were four pairs and why they were all metal finish, not the pretty blue the others were using but she didn’t want to be a bother. Then she realized her lifestyle had been to be a bother to others. It took a broken leg to see that. The next stop was at Sears. Carol pointed Denise to the paint department and found the Krylon spray paint. She pulled a can of blue off the shelf, then cans of white, tan and mauve. She also picked up a can of thinner and a pack of paint rags. The crutches were already in the crutch rack on the chair. The paint went into the back rack. Their next stop was the tool department. Carol picked up a small hand saw, a utility knife, a chisel and a mallet.

The next stop was at the Sears lingerie department. Carol went to a rack and pulled off three bras and handed them to Denise. She looked at the tag on them then up at Carol. “Isn’t a 34B too small for you?”

“Yes, way too small. But just right for you.”

Denise laughed. “I would love it, but I could only wear that if they swell a lot.”

“They will.”

“What?”

“Let me fix that.”

“Oh. How?”

Carol went over to the clerk and came back with a box. “We need you to go in the back, put on the bra and put these in it.”

Ten minutes later she came back out. Carol smiled. “How do you feel?”

“Almost like a cheerleader.”

“Good. Now let’s get you a couple of tops that will make them look good.”

By the time they got back to the RV they had the rack on the chair full. The others had picked up a couple of items and put them in the backpacks. Denise offered the rack for them, the others declined. “We carry our own things unless we can’t.”

“But I don’t mind.”

At the RV Carol pulled Denise to the one table they had out. She took out the paint and handed two cans to Denise. “Shake these.”
