Denise knows the booze is bad but getting her head and gut together is not easy.
Denise made a couple of shakes and sat it down. Carol handed it back. “Shake for five minutes. It has to be mixed well to go on smooth. And it is good exercise for your arms.” Finally when Denise thought she could not shake it any more Carol told her to stop. She pulled out of the pairs of crutches and taped the handles and tips of two crutches. “Now we make you a pair of neat looking crutches.”
She took the can of white and sprayed two crutches then she took them over to the table and stood them along it. “You do the rest of them. Don’t forget to shake the paint.” Denise shook the can of paint then sprayed the next two mauve then shook the tan and blue paint and painted the last two pairs.
Carol watched her do the first ones then went off for a few minutes to handle some other work. When she came back Denise was finished. Her hand had some paint. Carol handed her the rag and the thinner. “It’s like taking off nail polish. You can take the tape off the crutches too. All three of the others brought several pairs of crutches out and painted them too. “They need touched up from time to time. We sometimes get together to do this kind of thing. You can paint at least ten pairs and the paint doesn’t keep long after you open it.” When they were done Carol turned to Denise. When you get finished take all those things over to the table at the RV door except the mauve crutches and the tools. Put the crutches in the crutch rack. One of us will put the other things in the RV. You can keep them out for tonight if you want to use them. Just be very careful till you get used to them. No steps. Use the wooden ones for that.”
“We have less than an hour till the evening session. Shouldn’t I be changing clothes?”
“Why?”
“Well. I’m, you know, filled out. The pads in my bra.”
“Do you like it?”
“I don’t know.”
“Then let them in till you decide. It might be good for you to look more like a more mature woman. Let them in for tonight. We want to know if that makes a difference.”
