Carol steps up the pace.

Carol went down to the cafeteria to eat. She got her dinner, sat down, plugged the headset into her cell phone and made a call. When Fritz came on the line she discussed the progress of the afternoon. “I have her starting to take responsibility for her actions. That is where we have to start. Now I have to show her she is no better than I was when I was getting sloshed regularly. I have a couple of scripts we are going to go over. They will be as good a therapy as going to an AA meeting. I’ll try to get her to one of them tonight. She needs to hate the drunk she was with a passion.”

Fritz thanked her and hung up. She called her children and talked for about twenty minutes. By then her dinner was done and she was ready to go back and do some more therapy.

When she got back to Denise’s room she was carrying a pile of seven scripts. Denise looked at the pile and her eyes widened. “What are they for?”

“You know Fritz, the factory floor, production, production, production. No rest for the weary.”

“God. Is he really that much of a slave driver?”

“Actually no. I asked him for the scripts so you have something to do in the next couple of weeks, give you something to look forward to.”

“Looking forward to work?”

“Well, yes. But don’t you want to?”

“Well, I’m not sure I’m ready. I just had surgery…”

“Fritz is not talking about making movies yet. You need time to recover physically, learn to use your prosthesis, get your head on totally straight, finish this tour and then we get back and start making movies. He said you, Debbie, Susan and I will be the ones to tell him you are ready.”

“Then let’s get with it. Just promise me you will not let me do something that hurts me. But I really want to get back to work.”

“I would be stupid to do that. I’ll get a nice pay for working with you now so the longer it takes the more I make. But I have more to gain if you make it.”

“How? When we get done here, then what for you?”
