Denise Shore was the sometimes naughty girl next door in the TV series, "School Days". Denise liked to party, hung over she was nearly impossible to work with. Finally the cost of having her on a set outweighed her appeal to the viewers.

Tuesday

Carol and Denise had breakfast and Denise looked longingly as she took her bath in a basin while Carol took a shower. “I can’t wait till I can take a real bath.  I never really feel clean.”

Carol replied, “You can soon. That’s why I am enjoying one now. I’ll be taking spit baths for a week or more after the surgery. I hate to be crass but I’m going to get a good bath while I can.”

“No problem. But don’t expect me to not take one because you can’t.”

Carol laughed. “I reserve the right to gripe but I will understand.”

“I understand.  I really do.”

While they were doing their hair the phone rang. Denise picked it up. After a moment she handed it to Carol. “It’s someone named Joan. She wants to talk to you.  Who is that?”

“The woman who got me off the booze. If you think I am tough wait till you meet her.  She is special. I need to find out what she wants.”

Carol took the phone.

The call took nearly twenty minutes and Denise still had no idea what it was about when Carol hung up. Out of the conversation she did recognize the name Sandra Ball, the acronym DAK and the word “gangrene”. Without explaining Carol called Fritz. He was in a meeting. Carol told the secretary she needed to talk to him as soon as possible. The secretary would have him call her back.

She looked over at Denise. “I can go out to have this conversation with Fritz or have it here. I’d rather not go out right now. It depends on whether you can be a priest.”

“Priests are men.”

“I mean if I stay you will know something but you can’t tell anyone.”

“I get it. Like a priest in a confessional.”

“Got it.  It may be some day you can tell but not now and not till everyone knows.”

“I can.”

As she said it the phone rang. It was Fritz.

He started with the question, “What has Denise done now?”

“Denise? This isn’t about her. She hasn’t been exactly a model patient,” Denise turned her head and had a hurt look, “but she is really close.”

“Then what can be this important?”

“Would you be interested in a big name actress who could play DAK, DBK, AK/BK parts?”
