As she was working on Doris other blue and whites arrived. The additional officers helped provide emergency care. When the EMT’s arrived they began to take over the care and preparation to transport. Within minutes the ambulances started arriving and the four wounded were taken to the hospital.

The wounded officers were evaluated in the ER, X-rays were taken and they were taken to an OR. Leah was taken to surgery for their chest wounds. David Starner died in the ER.

David wounded Harry with a pistol firing hand loaded shells containing heavy loads of powder and about a half dozen medium shot. It was almost like being hit with a shotgun blast at close range. He got off three rounds before Doris took him down. The center of their wounds, David’s aiming point, was just below the naval. The team found perforations of his intestines, colon and bladder. The surgeons repaired them but Harry would come out of surgery with an colostomy.

Doris had a wound in her right side but X-rays showed bullet and bone fragments throughout he abdomen. Two 38 slugs entered near the center of her abdomen. One passed out through her left side perforating her colon. The other entered her right side and glanced off the top of her pelvis. It fractured off several small pieces of the bone and broke into pieces. The largest piece of the bullet and some bone fragments ripped through her ascending colon near the top of it creating many large tears then passed through the abdomen. Fragments of the bone hit her uterus. A ileostomy was performed, the tears in the large and small intestine repaired, the bullets taken from the muscle wall of her back and the incisions were closed. They removed the bullet in her leg and she was taken to recovery. After the surgery the surgeon was told that she had wounded two people and was standing after being shot. He shook his head. “That is one tough lady. She had enough damage in her belly to take out three people. If I were a cop I would want to ride with her.”

Leah Starner died in ICU during the evening.

Dr. Davis’ patients learned about the assault on the him from the staff. They also learned about the capture of Leah and David and the police injuries from the TV. The hospital released no information but that the two officers were wounded and expected to recover. The extent of their injuries were not mentioned or that they would need additional surgery.

The two condos were placed under police guard. As soon as the injured officers and suspects were taken away Anna and Maria were questioned by Internal Affairs. The scene of the shooting was carefully searched and photographed. By the time the lab team finished with the shooting scene a decision was made to wait till morning to check the condo’s. They were locked and a squad was assigned to guard each of them.
