Investigating the shooting turns even more costly for the police.

Sunday

Anna and Maria met detectives Larry and Carla and the lab team of Dale and Deedee at David’s condo at eight AM. They opened the door and went in. The squad team outside was on the radio requesting directions when there were at least twenty explosions in the condo.

The two officers ran to the door. Anna and Maria were crawling toward the door. Anna looked up from about three steps inside. “Stay back. The whole floor exploded. My feet.”

Dan reached for her and pulled her out. Neil was headed for the car. On the way he reported the incident on the radio. When he got back Dan was carrying out Carla. Maria, Dale and Deede were outside. He went back for Larry. By the time the EMT’s arrived all twelve legs had tourniquets.

The news of the injuries were passed to Dr. Kramer, Dr. Davis’ partner. He started calling the doctors who had helped with the new surgeries. By the time the first patient was transported to the hospital four surgeons were ready to operate. Anna was the taken to surgery first.

Harry and Doris were awake by eight thirty. By the time the morning hospital routine was complete IA officers were waiting to talk to them.

After the interviews Lt. Jack Doms and his partner Lt. Eva Sooter of IA sat at the computer reading their initial report. It would need some work to come into final form but the essence of it was there. The two officers were preparing to search and restrain the two suspects. They were waiting for the team from the front to cover the action. The female dropped an IV that was connected to a needle in her arm. She cried out and the male suspect appeared to be trying to retrieve it. An instant later the woman fired her first shot into the side of Doris’ abdomen. Doris had turned away from the woman to cover the perceived threat. She turned back to fire at the threat and was hit in the leg. She immediately fired three rounds into a four inch circle in the woman’s chest. Harry was fired upon by the male suspect. He fell and lost control of his weapon. Doris, although badly wounded and in pain turned and fired three shots into the chest of the male suspect. She maintained control of the scene till assistance arrived, consenting to have medical treatment only after the scene was secured by another officer.
