Chapter 4
The next day at school, a new 8th grader who was also very smart and had many of my characteristics showed up on the classroom. Everyone thought of him as very fat and ugly. This was my day to make a friend in the class. That day, I went outside during brunch and talked to him.
“Hey, I’m Mark,” I said.
“Oh, hi, my name is Jack,” he told.
“So.., where did you live before you came to Cupertino?” I asked.
“I lived in New York, my dad finally got a job as a waiter at a restaurant,” he said.
“So, what are your hobbies?” I asked.
“I like to read books on Chemistry and Physics,” he said.
That’s the exact same hobbies as me. I think that I had made a new friend.
“Being the new kid isn’t that easy,” he said.
“That’s something that we have in common,” I said.
“Why,” he asked.
“ I am actually supposed to be in 6th grade but I skipped 6th and 7th grade after I had aced both of the placement tests on all subjects,” I told him, “I had difficult times in school and still they occur.”
“Do you want to come to my house to read some of my books?” I asked.
“Sure, I love reading,” he said.
I think that I just made my first friend at school. Jack is coming over to my house on Friday to read some books on astronomy, I think that I could actually tell him about the UFO since I trust him. I felt very excited as I had dreams all night about him when he came over to my house.
Jack came to my house at 6:30 pm. I think that he is amazed because our house is much bigger to his apartment. I learned that he and his family were very poor in New York and his dad was barely able to support their family. I still didn’t care; he is still my friend, whatever social level they are. I showed him my UFO picture as he was amazed.
“Are you sure that you saw this, it could just be a balloon or something that floats in space,” he told.
