Detective Grouse was a jolly sort of fellow, but a bit down due to the death of his wife.
The black Jaguar V8 pulled up the perfect gravel drive, past the old Willow and Maple trees that broke up the sunlight, and perfect emerald green grass that stretched all around as far as the eye could see. The Jaguar stopped and Detective Grouse stepped out.
Grouse was a jolly sort of fellow but due to the recent departure of his wife, Winifred, was a bit down. Grouse was a particularly overweight man, with his brown moustache and jacket; he always wore his black bowler hat and circular spectacles even though he only needed them for reading.
The Detective walked up the monstrous marble steps that led to the door of Mapledew Mansion. He knocked sharply on the door and was opened by a smartly dressed butler in his early thirties.
“I’m Detective Grouse, I am here to see John Hinton,” Grouse explained flashing his badge at the bewildered butler.
“I’m sorry sir but Mr. Hinton has gone to the horse races,” remarked the butler in a posh voice.
“But you may see Mrs. Hinton.”
“Very well then.” Grouse plodded in and went into the lounge, where he met a beautiful lady in a very expensive looking ruby red dress.
“I suppose you’re here about the jewels, if I’m not mistaken.” spoke the lady.
“Yes, I’m Detective Grouse, you must be Mary Hinton.”
“Yes, please sit down,” Mary said. “Jeeves! Jeeves!”
The butler walked in. “Yes Milady.”
“Can you get me and the Detective some tea?”
“Yes Milady.”
Grouse began to talk, “So where exactly did you keep the jewels?”
“In a draw upstairs but it was locked,” replied Mary “But the strange thing was the drawer was locked and the jewels were gone!”
“Do you have the only key?”
“Yes.”
“Well I think I’ve got enough information now, have a nice day.”
Suddenly there was a scream from the kitchen and Grouse rushed to the scene.
