Endurance Chapter one Part three.
By freshman year in high school, Max developed an intense obsession for Mei Gordon. The problem of course was Mei; she never noticed him and wouldn’t even look in his direction. Max did not have the courage to approach her she intimidated him. Whenever Max did build up enough courage to talk to her something always went wrong, it was as if the universe was telling him. “She is just too good for you.”
“I don’t know what it is? Here we are in our junior year and soon to enter our senior year of high school and she won’t even look in my direction, it’s like she finds me repulsive, but I can’t get my mind off of her, something about her has got a hold of me and won’t let go?” Max thought.
It was two thirty in the afternoon. March thirteenth, Friday had finally rolled around. Everyone was eager to get out. Flyers had been passed around about a party at Zack’s house later on that night. The entire high school football team planned to be there. This included Max Martinez and Nelson Lopez.
Max and Nelson played high school football since their freshman year. Nelson was the main player on the field playing quarterback for the Belmont Eagles. Max was a wide receiver being one of the fastest runners on the field gave him much attention. Although both Max and Nelson were well known for their skills on the field very little people knew the real Max. However Nelson was known as a flirt.
Max was full of mystery; many girls assumed he was like his best friend Nelson. He dated very few girls at school. Some believed he was just afraid of dating a gold digger. Everyone in town knew his mother Jenna Burgess, she was infamous through out town, and known for being a gold digger.
Max had other reasons for his way of dating. His latest catch was Taisha Ledell; Max never called her his girlfriend. He believed in casual dates, he didn’t want to be tied down to one girl. However if you spoke to Taisha Ledell you would get a different story.
Max enjoyed going on dates, but never allowed the relationship to go any further. Claiming that he just wanted to feel things out first before jumping in the deep end. There was not one girl who he could not get out of his mind nor could he seem to get her attention. Mei Gordon was that exception, Max found her to be intoxicating her beauty was exotic she looked like a beautiful warrior queen. She was lean with slender muscles, Mei was also one of the most intelligent girls in class, but she kept to herself. She had a best friend named Cora Pennington and a few other friends, but she never really got into the cliques at school she stay apart. She was like a mystery to Max and he wanted to unravel her.
