This is Eventide

            The country of Heralding had entered Eventide. That is to say, it being the last human occupied country, it had entered a time of twilight. An age is defined by the prosperity of its people, and the age of Eventide began when Soforsa, south of Heralding, was destroyed. Humanity was indeed, in twilight. The age of Eventide would prove to be a turning point. As the name suggest, the sun was setting on the race of man.

            Occuria, however, was in the age of Solara. Now that is to say, being the Elven capital, it had entered a time of burning sun. Or war prosperity. The Occur Monarchy had unlocked the secret to eternal youth. You can imagine what an advantage this is over the other races. Like playing a game of chess when your opponent’s king is indestructible.

            The race of man however, had an average age of 40 years. Mostly due to the fact that the humans are being slaughtered on the battlefield and under constant pressure from the Elven empire. Humans were fighting a losing war. The Elves had generals that never got old, and kings that never died. If the king never dies, there is rarely change in government. The Elven Occur Monarch seemed determined to press the Elves as the dominant creature on the planet.

            Humans were famous for their pride. There is not a human who would not be proud to die for his race or their king, Roldin. Roldin was a motivating leader with vision and optimism. However, he knew his race was dying. He had to keep up his optimistic façade to keep morale up among his people.

            I said the humans were famous for their pride, which is true. However there is another thing they are famous for. Variance. Different hair color, eye color, facial features, height, All of these traits could vary from human to human. Whereas elves remained with fair skin, no facial hair, and blonde. Dwarves were short stocky, and had brown hair only. This variance in humans often lead to variance in opinion. While some humans were proud of their race, there were few who were not as proud of their race as they were of themselves alone. Those who opposed the king faced exile from their fellow men. Only one preferred retreat to dying in battle. His opinion spread to four others, and the Ranger’s were created. You could call them intelligent survivalists, or you could call them cowards.
