MARY

Father
They might have agreed to it but we haven’t.
Mary
Lots of girls my age at school go to Park End. Their parents allow them.
Father
I very much doubt that is true and if it is then that is highly irresponsible.
Mother serves the dinner and puts a plate in front of Mary.
MOTHER
Put your make up away love, it’s dinner time.
Mary sighs and pushes her cosmetics reluctantly to one side.
MOTHER
That’s better, now what homework have you got to do tonight?
Mary
They didn’t give us any.
FATHER
(Looking over his newspaper)
Well I don’t know what we pay all this money for. We might as well have you sent to a state school.
MARY

FATHER
Good. Well after dinner you can make a start on that and wipe all that muck off your face.
MARY
It’s Maybelline
FATHER
