The Bortilo attack Scarlett and Blaze. Jax is introduced.
Scarlett had no intentions of going to school for the rest of the week but Jaycen had insisted. She knew she could easily have convinced her teachers and parents she was sick. By no means was she valedictorian but she was not a bad student either.
Although she was on edge of running into the strangers she had been confronted with earlier this week she had not prepared for them to actually attend her school. Her jaw nearly touched her desk when she saw him walk into Mr. Martin’s history class.
“Now class listen up. We have a new student today. His name is Blake Sellurs and I know you will all be very welcoming.” Mr. Martin clasped a hand on Blake’s shoulder. “How about you sit next to Miss Jenxon?”
Scarlett did her best to hide her face. “You have got to be shitting me.”
“What’s wrong?” Jaycen turned around to look at her.
“I uh, forgot my favorite pen.” She smiled at him.
“You don’t have a favorite pen.”
“Oh, I use the same one everyday to take notes in this class. Kind of a good luck thing to mentally prepare me for tests.”
Her boyfriend shook his head at her. “I hope your parents come home early so you start acting normal again.”
“I am normal.” She leaned forward and kissed him quickly.
Through the rest of the class Scarlett did her best to avoid Blake. She propped her head on her left and so she was angled away from him as much as possible. Despite not being able to see him she could still feel his eyes on the back of her head through most of the hour.
As soon as the bell rang she jumped out of her seat. She parted ways with Jaycen in the hallway and was instantly aware Blake was following her. “What do you want?”
Blake grinned mischievously at her. He was wearing clothes similar to the first time she had saw him. “I just want to talk.”
She stared up at the ceiling a long time before answering him. “I am listening.”
“I am your brother, and you are my sister. Mother and Father are fighting the Bortilo on the home lands. War broke out about a decade ago. Three years after you were sent to live here.”
