“She isn’t here.” Jackie had her arms crossed defensively in front of her. She was chewing a piece of green gum loudly as she talked. “We have three classes together and she has not been in any of them. When you do find Scarlett explain to her that if she misses another practice I will rip her hair out and use it as pompoms.”

            I stared as I watched the young girl walk away. She was the first person I saw when I had entered Lincoln High School. Reluctantly I had asked her when I could find Scarlett. Now I was wondering how such a young person could have such pent up hostility.

            The hairs on my arms went upright. The energy I had sensed last night was somewhere near. There was something so urgently familiar about it that all other energies were shrouded. Franticly I searched around for the source. My eyes landed on a boy leaning against a locker talking to some classmates.

            A bell rang which I presumed signaled lunch. The mass of students began moving in one direction. Several people jostled me. I felt as if I were stuck in a slow moving stampede. All around me there was shouting and laughter. Jaycen was getting further and further down the corridor.

            Pushing myself through the crowd proved to be difficult. Though I am much stronger than the teenagers I did not want to hurt them. Gently as I could I slipped around the bodies. Still I could not sense Scarlett anywhere and something told me she would not be at home either.

            “Lacey what are you doing here?” I glanced over to see a familiar face watching me from a nearby doorway. “Blaze! I am looking for your sister.”

            “She is not with you?” Blaze’s face went from confusion to irritation. That bastard!”

            Before I could even respond he had set out in the opposite direction. Furiously he pushed his way through the crowd and turned the corner. Clearly I was not up to date with what was going on.
